Land Art’s Aloe Vera Topical Gel

For thousands of years, the aloe vera plant has been recognized for its many health benefits. It was in 2100 BC, in Mesopotamia, that we found the first writings about aloe vera. Its traditional use was also known in many countries including Greece, Egypt, China, India, South Africa, and Japan. Today, this plant is increasingly the subject of studies to better understand its virtues and understand why it is so effective.

The Aloe Vera Plant

There are several species of aloe vera, but it is the barbedensis miller aloe vera that is more precisely recognized by most people. It grows mainly in arid regions of Africa, Asia, Europe, India, and America. Aloe vera is a plant made up of 3 layers.

  • The first is the light-colored inner gel, which contains 99% water and contains polysaccharides, amino acids, vitamins, lipids, and sterols.
  • The second layer is the latex, which contains laxative substances.
  • The third layer is the outer part that protects it from drought and produces its proteins and carbohydrates.

The Aloe Vera contains 75 potentially active compounds that are grouped into 8 families.

  1. Vitamins: it contains vitamin A, C and E, which are antioxidants. It also contains vitamin B12, folic acid (B9) and choline.
  2. Enzymes: Contains 8 enzymes, the most recognized being bradykinin, which helps to reduce inflammation. The other enzymes help digest sugars and fats.
  3. Minerals: it contains several minerals including calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper, selenium, and zinc.
  4. Sugars: it contains simple sugars (monosaccharides) but also polysaccharides, the main ones being glucomannans. It is these polysaccharides that are said to have multiple health benefits.
  5. Anthraquinones (aloins): they have very powerful laxative effects.
  6. Fatty acids: which have anti-inflammatory effects.
  7. Hormones: which help reduce inflammation and speed up the healing process of wounds.
  8. The other components: aloe vera contains several other varied components including 20 amino acids and salicylic acid, which has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

Its external benefits

Thanks to all its active components, the aloe vera plant has several health benefits. Studies show 4 potential benefits for its external use:

  1. Accelerates the healing of wounds: it stimulates the repair of the external and internal mucous membranes.
  2. Anti-inflammatory: Several natural components of aloe vera contribute to this effect.
  3. Moisturizing and anti-aging effects: it reduces skin dryness and activates the production of collagen and elastin.
  4. Protects against damage from sunlight

Because of all these health effects, aloe vera is beneficial for several skin conditions including acne, psoriasis, minor burns, sunburns, abrasions, dandruff, hair, and aging skin.
